Day After Thanksgiving Capitol Tours

The Colorado State Capitol will be open for historical and dome tours on Friday, November 28, the day after Thanksgiving. Tours will be conducted from 9am - 2:30 pm. Tours are free of charge. Tours last 45 minutes for each tour and depart every 30 minutes. The public entrance is on Colfax and Sherman (north side of the Capitol). Basement entrance is for wheelchair and stroller visitors. Denver Breaks Tourism Records Again in 2007

Denver had its best year as a tourism destination in 2007 with a record 12.2 million overnight visitors, four percent above 2006, according to figures released by Longwoods International. The study, commissioned by VISIT DENVER, found that visitors also spent a record $2.9 billion in the city, a 6 percent increase over 2006 figures. // More

Westin Tabor Center Starting On-Property Food Waste Composting

Associates at The Westin Tabor Center are implementing a cutting-edge commercial recycling program, in which food scraps, liquids such as beer, milk and juice as well as other organic materials are collected for composting. Westin Tabor Center is the first hotel in the Denver area to institutionalize a composting program to this extent, and the first to dedicate a compactor to its composting material. Denver to Launch Biennial of the Americas

In the historic tradition of Venice and Sao Paolo, the world’s newest international contemporary art biennial is coming to Denver, Colorado. Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper announced the city has received a $2 million grant from the Colorado-based Boettcher Foundation to help launch the Mile High City’s inaugural Biennial of the Americas. Scheduled for the summer of 2010, the two-month-long curated event will be a celebration of contemporary art and ideas from throughout the Americas. // More
